Busy First Week for 35+ More Years!
Phew! This has been an extremely busy week as my title does say! As I have mentioned before, this was my first week at my full time job at the new bank. It was good, but just lots of new information! I mean, there was orientation on Monday. It was very helpful and I took lots of good notes to help me later on with benefits, 401K, W-4 etc. After orientation I had an hour for lunch before I was to go to my actual branch that I will be working at. I arrived there about 1pm and talked to Stefany, my new branch manager, and meet all the people I will be working with. It is an all female branch! How cool, yet how boring huh? No cute guys to look at! ^__~ There is Heather who is the assistant manager, Martha, Linda and Christen who are all tellers, and then there is Lori who is a banker. Then there is a me, who is a "Universal Banker." I do banking and teller work. I might be a teller 2 days a week and then a banker the other 3. This week though, I did not do either. I just did some paperwork and then some training on the computer. In "training" I mean a computer program that goes over LOTS of stuff! I mean I did maybe 20+ hours of just computer courses this week on many things from what APY means, how to fill out a SAR form when I expect fraud, money laundering, customer service and a whole day of the "teller" program I will be using to process all types of transactions as simple as a cash deposit to cashing out EE or I savings bonds and processing payments for loan or credit cards. A lot of stuff is similar to my old job at the other bank, but it will take a lot of practice to get used to this new system. Plus this bank offers stuff my old job didn't like credit cards. I am thinking that these things may pose as a hurdle for me for a while to grasp. Today felt a little stressful to me and I was not even running transactions on the teller line. Part of Thursday and today (Friday) I did some "observing" on the teller line. Did not learn a whole lot for it was SOOOOOOO busy and Martha, Linda, Heather, and Christen were working all so fast! I felt like I was in the way so I retreated to my very on desk :-) to do some exploring of the company website. My old job at the bank maybe did 9000+ deposits and stuff a month and this new bank and job does like 16000+ a month! Eek! Stefany said that we are not even the most busy branch in the state either. My old job's top branch did 16000+ month. I am not too worried though. I know it will take some getting used to and all, but I am looking forward to going to "teller school" this coming Tuesday to learn about being a teller and not feeling so helpless when I see the other girls struggling and needing help. Maybe after next week I will be able to "hop" in there and help out. ^___^ Two weeks after teller school I have "banker school" to learn how to open accounts, do loans, time deposits etc. All this info plus more has just been a little overwhelming this week. I have been getting up at 8am leaving to work at 8:45am, starting work at 9am, going to lunch at 12:30pm, coming back at 1:30pm and leaving at 6pm. I come home eat, take a bath, process my benefits I wish to have, file W-4 for taxes, choose 401K % contribution etc and go to bed at 8:20pm latest. I have been so tired this week! Of course I am not used to working 40 hours a week yet! ^___~ I have felt good about myself this week though. I feel like I am heading in the right direction now. Good things are coming for me. Tis the weekend for me now. Saturday and Sunday off! Yay! I do not know what I am going to do. Just slack off! Ha Ha! It is hard to imagine that I have to work for another 35 more years or so until I retire. 40 hours a week. I will of course get vacation in there soon, but I am just starting out in the world. I hope to get my own apartment with a room mate or something soon. I am shooting for August or September to do that. I have just started paying my own car insurance and pay my parents rent each month. I can feel the responsibility I have now. It is a neat feeling. (Others may debate) Well that is it for my first day or week of work post. <3
